About the Zealous Decorator

Sarah Zeal Interior Designer with Kalea

Hello, thank you for visiting my site. I hope you find inspiration and perhaps we’ll even get an opportunity to meet!

Anyone who knows me, knows that I LOVE to decorate and design! I’ve helped many friends and family members over the years. Decorating just comes natural to me and I have an appreciation for many different styles. I tend to remember something I saw from years ago, maybe from a trip, a restaurant, hotel, or magazine and then I bring it to life when the right opportunity is presented.

To me, what makes a finished room, table scape, house or even landscaping is in the little details. Adding something unique takes a space from nice or pretty to an “oh wow!” This might mean trim on an otherwise basic curtain, adding extra layers or a throw pillow in an unexpected color, or maybe it’s an antique or item gathered from a trip to add depth and a unique and personal touch.

Oh and did I mention, I work very well with a budget? To me, there’s items that you need to spend a little extra for quality, while there are some things that you may want to replace more frequently or maybe it’s a lesser used accent item that you can spend a little less on. Then when these items are grouped together you get an exceptional finish without going over budget.

How the Zealous Decorator Began

I’ve been interested in decorating and interior design pretty much my entire life. When I was six, my parents were in the process of building a home and I said, “I want a room like yours (that meant an on-suite bedroom with a vaulted ceiling) and a bubblegum pink bathtub!”

I was very fortunate to have parents to allow me to make such selections! I went to the local paint store and selected a vibrant bubblegum pink sample chip.

When I handed it over to the painter, he looked at my parents with an “are you sure?” look on his face.  My dad said, “Yep, paint that beautiful antique claw foot bathtub pink ‑ it’s what she wants.” Thanks Mom and Dad!

Naturally, the rest of the bedroom had to match with pink bow wallpaper ‑ yep, wallpaper! So as you might imagine, I outgrew those pretty pink bows in my early teen years so that was my next opportunity to spread my decorating wings…

Over the years I’ve discovered I have the memory to store ideas away and pull inspiration from years back and put them into action. I have been doing this for myself and helping friends and family create beautiful living spaces. Then it hit me ‑ why not help others?

I’ve found that some people, including myself, can be hesitant, or even intimidated by, working with a designer or decorator. There is often a fear that the decorator will take over and remove someone’s personal style.  Another concern is that the end result could be so far out of your comfort price range that you don’t even go down the path to find the perfect decorator to meet your needs.

Not to worry, I’d encourage you to reach out when you’re ready. I always have tons of ideas and I will work hard to learn your style and make it work within your budget, no matter how big or small.

Thanks again for visiting!
